In August of last year I was proposed to and said yes. I did not jump into planning a wedding, I took the relaxed approach. Once we decided on a time frame we started looking at venues, caterers, and prices. So we saw that we could easily spend 20,000 dollars in one day. Once I started talking to my family I would either get too much information of what they wanted, or lack of support. There was no happy medium. I have three older sisters and some who were recently single during the engagement. So I can understand somewhat their lack of interest. But no matter the reason I wanted our special day to be about us, and didn’t want anyone else’s attitude getting in the way.
Our plan B was looking at sandals resorts in Jamaica, where just the two of us would go and have a wedding honeymoon that was all about us. But leaving the country seemed a little extreme for our good friends that expressed interest in being at our wedding no matter where it was. We then decided Hawaii was more attainable, and have a big reception when we get home. To my surprise one of my sisters and cousin were the first to buy plane tickets with us. Also, my best friend her husband, family and my mother in law all came to Maui with us for a week. The wedding was perfect, romantic and simple. We were barefoot on the beach saying out vows to one another while the waves crashed on our feet. I didn’t even care that my dress was getting wet, it was the one and only time I would need to wear it.
Overall I am glad we went to a romantic destination, and had a small romantic wedding. I feel a little bad that some people were not there, but at the end o the day it is about us making the most of our wedding and starting our new lives together in a stress free situation.
